...Go

Seeing as the next few days are going to be chock-full of craziness (more so than my usual), this is going to be my last post for the week. Promise. :)

Today I’m trying to focus on getting some work done.
Tomorrow, I will enjoy holiday festivities with old and new friends.
Friday, I will get my last run in and then meet Z at the airport.
Saturday, we’ll take the train to Florence and go to the expo to pick up my race packet.
Sunday, I’ll run the Florence marathon. And somewhere around the three and a half hour mark, I’ll officially turn 30.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I want to thank all of you.
Thank you for your encouragement, support, advice and humor.
Most of all, thank you for your friendship. It has meant more to me during this journey than you will ever know.

It’s a big weekend ahead. I hope I can control the jumble of nerves and excitement enough to get some rest. Only four more sleeps. I want to make them count.

I want to wish all Americans a safe and happy Thanksgiving and a wonderful weekend to everyone.

See you on the other side.

Well, seeing as this is your last post before the big day, I will now do what I always do for marathoners-to-be: I will compose an Inspirational Acrostic Based On Your Name:

X is for ... are you kidding me? X? Nix this! Next letter!

E is for ... frankly, not much either inspirational or running-related. Ya gotta meet me halfway, here, sister. I'm not an Acrostic-Writin' machine you know!

N is for ... Never promise a name-based Acrostic to someone whose name starts with "X".

I is for ... I am sorry I made this rash promise before I really noticed how your name was spelt.

A is for ... Austria: A country next to Italy, which, if you find yourself at its border, means you've probably strayed from the approved marathon route; Austria (little-known fact) is also the same as "Australia" - it's just a shortened spelling for lazy people and certain American soon-to-be-ex-Preznits. So if you do end up there, say G'day and ask them for a shrimp off the barbie. (I promise, this is NOT Austrian slang for "I'm sweaty but horny.")

Best of luck, sister!. You'll be a marathoner on you next post. We're excited for you here on the other side of the pond!

P.S. Your sister's name starts with Z? Did your parents hate acrostics or something?

I /was/ going to get up and run with you, or at least at the same time on the other side of the planet. But if you're going to insist on starting a marathon at 1 in the morning, I'm going to stay in bed and think good running thoughts instead.

Go Xenia!!!

Please go easy on the muscle cream, okay? Just because it's topical doesn't mean you can't o/d on it.

And try to have ... well fun is probably not the right word. Enjoy the experience.

Go Go Gadget-- no, wait, Go Xenia!

They say the first time is always special. I guess that could also apply to marathons of the running type.

As a fellow Sagittarian, I must tell you I've heard rumours that, after 15 years of causing doom and gloom and general mayhem (or so they say), that great beast of a planet Pluto is leaving our sign this week. Which apparently is a good sign for our sign. I'm sure it bodes well for anyone embarking upon rigorous feats of physicality. And marathons.

What the hell is gelato? Makes me think of gelatinous. Which brings to mind things like jelly fish. And, I don't know, mucus. Probably you should treat yourself to something cold and creamy and delicious instead.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Birthday!
Happy First Marathon Day!

So very proud of you.
