Bad karma

Warm temps + oppressive sunshine - any kind of shade = BRUTAL EFFING MARATHON.

I dragged my carcass over the finish line at 5:42 and change. I honestly thought I might not make it or that the race itself would have to be canceled before I reached the finish. Thankfully neither happened.

There's tons to say but I'm tired and dealing with the other major side effect of prolonged sun exposure--a horrific sunburn. I've got light pink calves, purple arms, a red neck (heh) and the worst raccoon eyes ever. I've used up nearly an entire bottle of aloe vera in two hours and my skin is still soaking it up almost instantly.

I'll write up a proper report later this week. Right now I'm just happy to be sitting down and thankful that my feet haven't fallen off yet.

Thanks for all of your support, guys. It really helped me out.

Later gators.

Ugh! That sounds rough, but you finished! We await the full report. (I understand that the race wasn't fun for you, but I'm hoping for a funny report!) Congratulations and rub that ALOE on!

Way to tap into that mental strength and finish when the going was tough.

Can't wait to hear the full report!

Nice job!!! I've done a hot marathon or two myself and I know that it is NOT fun. You should be proud of yourself for finishing what you started. Keep on with the aloe vera, and know that I'm seriously impressed with you.

Congrats on digging deep and pulling it off!

Congrats on completing your second marathon! =) I hope you recover soon from the sunburn! Take anti-inflammatories and keep applying that aloe! I hear a towel soaked in ice cold milk really helps, too (=

Thanks for all of your support, guys.

For the record, I never supported your decision to run this marathon. I actively lobbied against it, in fact. See http://stopxenianow.org (<--Geez, I hope that's not a real site, or, if it is, it's a porn site full of up-kilted Scotsmen.)

Well, congrats on finishing under such adverse conditions. But remember: aloe vera is a Gateway lubricant and can lead to Vaseline Petroleum Jelly abuse. Plus, shouldn't you be using aloe victor? Because vera? What are you? Lesbian?

I take it from the title of this post that my "Instant Karma" recommendation had a hand in all this. I knew I should have recommended "Fresh-Brewed Karma" - but nobody has yet recorded such a song. And if someone did, it would suck ... and thereby become SteveQ's FAVORITE SONG OF ALL TIME1!1

If it's any consolation, you now really do "shine on/ Like the moon and the stars and the sun" .. what with all that sunburn going on. Thank you for absorbing all that heat and protecting us all, just a little, from the Global Warming that Dr. Nic sez is a myth.

Seriously, take care of yourself, Ms. X-ie, and congratulations!

That sucks. If it helps, I feel your pain (metaphorically) on half that scale. CB, IA did not lend itself to a cool, crisp race.

Heat is a marathon's worst enemy.

You ran for almost 6 hours in oppressive heat - that's a major accomplishment in my book, comparable to reading Glaven's writings on music.

Brutal!!! But you battled through and finished... that must of taken some guts... marathons are brutal enough without the heat!

Chill-out and recover fast!!!

Brutal! But congrats on finishing anyway!

Yikes. Sounds like a hard fought finish. Way to gut it out.

Ouch - sounds freaking brutal, X!

But you finished, & that's freaking amazing!!!!!!!!!

Happy recovery, girl.

Ouch...sounds like a walk through hell. But you came out the other side. Congratulations on your finish! Recover like a champ! Can't wait for the full report.

Just remembered that Pynchon used "Bad Karma" as the name of a resort spa in "Gravity's Rainbow." If that was an intentional reference, you're way too cool for this joint, if not, I finally got something out of reading that blasted book.

Way to stick it out! It's disappointing when the conditions aren't conducive. At. All.

Another medal. Another story!
