 Kicked in the nuts
The only bad thing related to my recent quick trip to the states was that I returned with a cold. It’s now been nine days since my return and I’m still sick. My nose is full of snot and my lungs are full of phlegm which makes me cough like a seasoned 10-pack a day smoker. Co-workers and friends are sympathetic to my plight but really they just want me to bugger off so I don’t infect them with my American germs. English bastards.

My illness has unfortunately coincided with a rare week of beautiful warm sunny weather here on this island which is usually cursed with rain and overcast skies. I’ve tried to spend as much time outdoors as possible, but the frequent deep cough attacks to expel phlegm and their unfortunate triggering of my vomit reflex don’t allow me to be in public for long stretches of time without causing a scene. I’ve wanted so badly to run or take a spin class ever since I returned from the states, but my diminished lung capacity won’t let me. Instead I take walks and do some yoga. It’s not as satisfying though. A slightly welcome side effect considering I can’t really do any decent cardio at the moment is the decrease in my appetite. At least I shouldn’t be gaining any weight right now.

I’m fortunate in that I don’t often get sick. The last time I remember having a cold like this was in 2009 and I was sick for a solid two weeks. Another positive is that this recent illness finally got me to register with a surgery (aka doctor’s office) here in Port Nerd. I have a new patient meeting next week, so if I’m not well by then at least I have the hope of getting some higher strength drugs to help kill this thing. Until then, I’m drinking lots of orange juice and tea, swilling cough medicine straight out of the bottle and have a box of tissues and a trash can by my side at all times.

Wherever you are, I hope you are enjoying good weather AND good health. Run for me, will ya?

Frequent flyer

After more than a month of doing sod all, I finally ran again. What got me back to it? A surprise weekend trip to Nebraska. An exotic locale, I know.

My sister's bridal shower was on Saturday. Since I've missed every other major milestone so far in her wedding preparations, I didn't want to miss this one. Also, I'd have the opportunity to see our mom, dad and a lot of our mother's side of the family whom I haven't seen in a few years.

So I jetted off Friday and arrived that evening. Z's bff picked me up at the airport and I shocked Z that night when she came over for dinner. I've never pulled a stunt like this before so I was pretty stoked that it went off without a hitch.

I ran Saturday morning before the bridal shower and again on Monday morning before heading out on my return flight that evening. Each run was only a measly two miles, but it felt great to get back out there even with the hot temps (about 20-30 degrees F higher than in the UK) and the unexpected hills. I think the fact that we finally found my bridesmaid's dress on Saturday is motivation enough for me to get back on the fitness bandwagon. The tailor can take in my dress before the wedding, but he/she definitely can't make it any bigger.

So after 20 hours of flying and untold number of hours in buses and cars, I'm back in jolly old England where the weather is FINALLY starting to feel like summer. Fingers crossed it stays like this for the next few weeks before I return to the states again for three weeks of pre-wedding madness and the main event.

How peanut butter is made

And now I've traumatized all you peanut butter fans. My work here is done.

Oops. I forgot I had a blog. But I don't have a whole lot I feel like saying, so I guess it's for the best.

My travels went fine. I miss it actually as the weather in England has been rather depressing these last few weeks. Expected, but depressing nonetheless.

I haven't run in a month. I just haven't felt like it. I'm hoping that changes soon, but until then there's walking and yoga to keep me occupied.

Before I left on my travels, I changed the security settings to allow my blog to come up in search results. I was curious about what would bring people to my little corner of the internets. Not surprisingly, the results are quite odd. Search results include:
  •  running water bottles [This brings up a post from my early days of blogging when I actually, you know, ran.]
  • fuck bitch im bragging in nutella [What does this even mean?!]
  • tyrannosaurus mex [I knew that dino month was going to bite me in the ass.]
  • 14 year old man boobs [Yikes.]
  • antisocial sloth [This sums me up rather well.]
  • fuck i'm high [The complete opposite of me actually.]
These results just confirm that I'm a classy broad with a classy blog. Or else maybe it means I shouldn't have my mind in the toilet of humanity all the time and then proceed to blog about it. Eh, it's a toss-up.

Since I have nothing of real value left to say, here's a few pics from my recent travels. Enjoy.

We begin with Germany...

View of the river on my one run there.

And now for Italy...
